Wages and PAYG Withholding pre-fill coming to Activity Statements

Jeremy Wotton

From July 2023, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will begin to prefill the PAYG withholding amounts in employer’s Business and Instalment Activity Statements in ATO Online Services (the ATO Portals).

ATO PAYG withholding prefill information will be available for small and medium employers from the:

  • July Activity Statement for monthly PAYG withholders
  • September Activity Statement for quarterly PAYG withholders.

The ATO will use the amounts employer’s report via Single Touch Payroll (STP) to prefill labels W1 and W2:

  • Label W1 – Total salary, wages and other payments
  • Label W2 – Amount withheld from payments shown at W1.

Employers will need to check prefilled amounts match your records and complete remaining labels (where applicable).

There is no change to how you lodge and pay your Activity Statements.

Accounting Software providers, like Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB will choose which products they make prefill available in and when.
